Priced by snapshot

Try Starter on your own Storybook for 30 days, with the £84 fee waived. Subscribe to continue after your trial.

What is a snapshot?

One screenshot of one component example (a story), at one screen size, in one browser. Each extra screen size or browser adds another visual snapshot. Optional accessibility checks add one more snapshot per story and screen size, in Chromium only.

For example, 100 stories × 2 screen sizes × 1 browser = 200 visual snapshots per run, or 400 including accessibility. Estimate your own usage.

The trial starts with your first eligible GitHub project. One project, no automatic subscription. Choose a paid plan after 30 days. Check eligibility and credit rules.

£149 subscription, including 50,000 snapshots
0 additional snapshots: 0p

Assumes each story uses every selected screen size and browser, with one accessibility check per Chromium capture. Excluded stories are not counted. Smart Snapshots can reduce capture work by showing unchanged stories; those checks still count towards billed usage. Actual usage depends on checks that run; Framecheck failures and retries are free.

Runs share capacity and can queue. Paid runs take priority over trial runs. Each run has a 45-minute deadline.

A Starter example

200 builds a month × 400 stories at one viewport in Chromium is 80,000 snapshots: £106.50 on Starter, or £146.50 with accessibility checks. This includes the £84 subscription plus extra usage from prepaid credit.

Questions

How much does visual regression testing cost?

Hosted services charge per screenshot. Published self-serve plans we checked on 16 October 2026 start at $100 to $199 a month (Percy’s $199 is billed annually) for 10,000 to 50,000 screenshots, with extra screenshots from $1.50 to $36 per 1,000. Framecheck Starter is £84 a month including 35,000 snapshots, then 50p per 1,000 snapshots. Pro is £149 a month including 50,000 snapshots, then 45p per 1,000. Prices are in pounds sterling with no VAT added. Open-source tools such as BackstopJS are free, but you run, store and review the screenshots yourself. Compare published prices

What counts as a snapshot?

One story at one viewport in one browser is one visual snapshot. Multiply by the screen sizes and browsers you enable. Accessibility adds one check per story and viewport in Chromium only. Stories you exclude from capture are not counted.

You pay once for each snapshot that runs, whether it passes, shows a change, or fails because of your story, code or configuration.

Does Smart Snapshots change what I pay?

No. Smart Snapshots is included on every plan. It makes pull request runs finish sooner by capturing only the stories a change could affect and showing the rest as unchanged with their approved baseline image. You are billed per story checked, and an unchanged story counts as one snapshot, the same as a captured one.

How does the Starter trial work?

Connect your first GitHub project to start a 30-day Starter trial with 35,000 snapshots and the £84 fee waived. No card required. One project and one trial per GitHub organisation or personal account; previously connected accounts are not eligible, including owners linked to paid accounts. Deleting your trial project does not allow a replacement. Repository and trial-activator history also prevent repeat trials. You can buy prepaid credit for extra snapshots during the trial. A paid subscription is required after 30 days, even if credit remains. Subscribing ends the trial immediately and starts the full paid allowance; unused trial snapshots do not carry over.

What happens when I use up the included snapshots?

During the trial, captures stop when your allowance and prepaid credit cannot cover the run. There is no trial grace credit. On paid plans, further snapshots are paid from your prepaid credit at 50p per 1,000 on Starter or 45p per 1,000 on Pro. Starter has no grace credit. Pro can continue up to £50 below zero with an active subscription and a saved card. Once available funding is used, or a build would take you over your spend limit, new builds do not start until you top up or raise the limit.

Can I change plans?

Upgrades start immediately after payment. You see the prorated charge before confirming, and your renewal date stays the same. Your current period’s included snapshots go up pro rata for the time left until renewal; snapshots already used are kept. Downgrades take effect at your next renewal.

What does Pro support include?

Pro includes a dedicated Slack channel with the Framecheck team. Contact support after subscribing and we’ll arrange your invitation. Support is best effort, without a response-time SLA.

Are there limits on a build?

Each run captures up to 5,000 visual snapshots across browsers and screen sizes and has 45 minutes to finish. Accessibility checks add billed snapshots separately. Builds share capture capacity and can queue at busy times.

What happens to my credit if I cancel?

Prepaid credit can be used during an active Starter trial or paid subscription. Prepaid credit is non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise. Unused credit stays on your company account and can be used again if you subscribe again.

Do failed builds cost anything?

Failures caused by Framecheck are free, and so are retries. You are charged once per logical attempt, however many tries it takes. A snapshot that fails because of your story, code or configuration counts like any other snapshot that ran.

Nothing is charged for time in the queue, for checks that never ran, or for a build cancelled before capture starts.

Do unused snapshots roll over?

No. Unused included snapshots expire at the end of each billing period.

Is VAT added?

No. Prices are in pounds sterling and no VAT is added.

Do you charge per user?

No. The plan is per company, and everyone you add can use it.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Your subscription runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
